In Hamilton County there are about 40,000 drivers who have either had their driver’s license suspended or revoked.   The residual issues associated with this activity are numerous.  Drivers are being arrested for the illegal act of driving without their license, whether it be suspended or revoked.  This can sometime be a burden on the already overcrowded judicial system.  They also sometime find it hard to maintain employment without a proper driver’s license. Our office recognizes that if a defendant does not work, they will find it difficult to pay their court ordered fees and fines, as well. 

In an effort to help alleviate this problem Vince Dean, Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk, announced a reinstatement program that his office has recently launched. 

“We are here to serve the public.” Dean said.  “And sometimes that means going out of our way to assist them, when maybe no one else will.” 

The program is available to the general public, whether they owe money to the court system or not.  This can be done in person or by phone, QR Code, or online at https://www.hamiltontn.gov/DLReinstatement.aspx

These simple instructions are available to guide you through the process.  In person, one of the Reinstatement Specialist can assist with shepherding you through the process and answer a variety of questions surrounding the process.

“We realize that many people see getting their license reinstated as an insurmountable task and just ignore doing it.” Dean said.  “We want to make the process as simple as possible and hopefully remove some of the obstacles that people are experiencing.”
