Seven Inmates First to Graduate from MAT Program

February 22, 2026 By Contributed Article Leave a Comment

The HCSO graduated the first seven inmates from the Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program at the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center after launching the program in December.

MAT Programs in jails use both FDA-approved medications and behavioral counseling to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders, aiming to reduce withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and recidivism. This joint initiative follows more than two years of collaborative planning between the Sheriff’s Office and key partners, including Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp, Quality Correctional Health Care (QCHC), the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office, Hamilton County’s Economic & Community Development Office (ECD), and the McNabb Center.

Research demonstrates that MAT programs reduce drug use and overdose events while promoting recovery. The program is administered in coordination with QCHC and the McNabb Center, ensuring comprehensive medical care and therapeutic support. County-based care is provided after release.

Please join us in congratulating the following graduates: Darian Garrett, Jacob Daniel, DeJuan Underwood, Peyton Adams, and Tyler Coyne.
