Left for Liquor, Right for Elementary School

September 7, 2022 By Contributed Article 0 Comments

Coming down John Ross from Rossville, there is now a bright sign with liquor bottles to your left, and a beautiful elementary school to your right. The liquor store sign shines much brighter than the nice school sign. Now, when kids come to school, the kids eyes are drawn to a bright LED lit liquor store sign. When they leave, they see the liquor store sign.

I can honestly understand a liquor store in East Ridge. Why not? The first one hasn’t appeared to cause much of a problem. Add a second? Probably not necessary, but oh well. But then you expect me to accept the liquor store is within view of a school? Well, I don’t love it, but I don’t suppose it’s worth much energy to complain about it.

But now you take it a step further. Not only do you put an entrance on Ringgold Road (fine), you literally put a neon sign within 30 yards of the elementary sign? And you have an entrance where you literally turn one way for the school parking lot, and turn the other way and you can get your liquor?

What are we doing here? This is a disgrace. So I write the editor, complain, and request the back entrance to the liquor store is closed and the neon sign 30 yards from the school sign is removed. Do what you want on Ringgold Road, we don’t want the kids looking at the liquor bottles while out at recess.
