July 3, 2024 By Contributed Article 0 Comments

Rev. Denny Manning, 79, of East Ridge, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

Denny was born on May 8, 1945 in Graysville, Ga., to the late Samuel Thomas Manning and Viola Ellen (Stonecipher) Manning. Denny attended school at East Brainerd Elementary and Tyner Middle School.

Denny never met a stranger and was well known in and around East Ridge and Chattanooga. During his career he worked at numerous places including maintenance with Hamilton County. He also worked with Village Motors, but his true calling was in his evangelistic work. He built and pastored over 12 churches and worked as chaplain with the East Ridge Police Department for over 20+ years. He also served his community as a city councilman for East Ridge for 12 years. Denny was also a charter member of the East Ridge Optimist Club.

Denny was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, and four of his siblings, brothers, Raymond Manning and Cecil Eugene Manning, and his sisters, Rendy Stapp, and Mill Daniels.

Left behind to cherish Denny’s memory are his wife of 54 years, Shirley, his daughters, Angela (Charles) Jones of Ringgold and Tonya (Jack) Bankus of Tunnel Hill, grandchildren, Brandon (Amber) Manning, Austin (Chasety) Bankus, and CJ Jones, great-grandson, Braxton Bankus, brothers, Dewey (Paulette) Manning of Chattanooga and Sammy (Anita) Manning of North Carolina, serveral nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Denny’s Life will be held on Monday July 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Pritchett and Rev. Carl Hundsucker officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Lakewood Memory Gardens South in Rossville after the service.
