U.S. Senate Candidate Gloria Johnson endorses Heather McClendon for State House

Contributed photo _ Gloria Johnson, left, a candidate for the U.S. Senate, endorsed Heather McClendon for State House District 30 on Monday.

Like McClendon, Johnson has spent her career as a special educator, advocating for the children who need it the most.

Tennessee House 30 Candidate Heather McClendon (D-Belvoir) proudly accepted the endorsement of U.S. Senate Candidate Rep. Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) Monday. Johnson, a special education teacher and famed member of the ‘Tennessee Three,’ noted McClendon’s experience and spirit as reasons she chose to back her campaign.

“Tennessee needs a strong fighter like Heather McClendon, a single mother of three, a school psychologist, and a cancer survivor,” said Rep. Johnson. “She will fight for our families just as she has for hers because she understands the struggles our families face daily.”

In her five years serving in the Tennessee House of Representatives, Johnson, who was recently endorsed by The Chattanooga Times, has been an advocate for the sensible gun laws 70 percent of Tennesseans agree that we need and for more funding for public education. Tennessee ranks 45th in the nation in per-student spending and 44th in the nation for teacher pay.

“I have admired Representative Johnson’s energy and service to our state for years and I am honored to have her support,” said McClendon. “Representative Johnson is one of the few voices in the General Assembly today who speaks up for what everyday Tennesseans really want – quality healthcare, good schools, and housing that’s affordable to them. I’m looking forward to working with Gloria to solve these issues when we send her to Washington on November 5.”
