Hundreds of children with their parents gathered at East Ridge High School’s Shanks Field to take part in Jones Memorial United Methodist Church’s Easter “Eggstravaganza” on a beautiful Saturday morning.

The iconic church has sponsored the event for many years and this edition of the community outreach was spectacular, as children of all ages rushed the field to claim eggs and door prizes.

The rules were simple, as youth director Ashley Wade announced prior to the egg hunt: “No pushing, no fighting and no stealing eggs. That goes for the parents,” she said.egg hunt wade

Young Chloe Stokes, a kindergartner at Lighthouse Christian School in Nashville, took home the much-sought after door prize of a karyoke machine. It was all Chloe could do to claim her prize as the box that the machine came in was almost as large as the she was and the smile that adorned her face.

For the three-and under group, a tricycle along with some board games were awarded.

Rachel Lonas and her three young daughters have made something of a tradition of attending the “Eggstravaganza.” Ms. Lonas said that she and her girls, who are home-schooled, have been attending for more than five years.

“We really enjoyed it,” said young Eden Lonas, the middle child, who didn’t seem at all jealous of the fact that her older sister, Canaan, was one of the egg hunters who came away with a “special egg” entitling her to a small prize.
