New ERHS Dress Code for Freshman

August 1, 2015 By Dick Cook and News Channel 9 2 Comments

According to our friends at NewsChannel9, some parents at East Ridge High School are concerned about a new uniform policy.

The dress code for sophomores, juniors and seniors will stay the same, but it’s freshmen who will now be required to wear something different.

According to the 2015-2016 student dress code sheet, it says freshmen must wear solid navy blue cotton polo/golf style shirts as part
of the Freshman Academy, but the upper classman uniform of orange, white or gray polos doesn’t change. And that’s not sitting well with freshmen parents.

“It’s going to single the kids out emotionally- that’s what I’m worried about,” said Nicole Daniels, East Ridge HS parent.

But that’s not Daniels only concern. “They’re anywhere from 10 to 15 dollars apiece,” she said.

Money – she could have put towards other things.

“I mean, I have three children that I have to provide for – with school supplies, that could go more for that. I could save up, buy
more paper, binders, so I have more through the year and don’t have to worry about it,” she added.

On top of the money, Daniels says the notice given to parents was way too late, and she wants an explanation.

“I’ve tried emailing and tried calling the principal and have gotten no response,” she said.

Then during our interview, her phone rang with this message: “Please check the East Ridge High School website at www.ERHS.HCDE.org
for information on registration and dress code.”

“That’s it. That’s pretty much all we get,” she said.

Now, Daniels is just hoping her plea to change things back to normal is heard.

We stopped by the high school earlier today to speak to the principal. We’re told she was in a meeting with the superintendent
until late this afternoon. Instead, we were referred to a copy of the dress code sheet.
