Pioneers Edge Eagles behind Moore’s Rushing

September 3, 2016 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

Mr. Football is back!

Traneil Moore scored on a 76-yard run with less than six minutes to go in the game to lead East Ridge to a 35-28 win over Signal Mountain, Friday night on the mountain.

Moore, the recipient of the Mr. Football Award last year, had knee surgery in the off season. In his first game back, he rushed for 165 yards on 20 caries. Moore also scored on runs of 20 and 11 yards in the second quarter, as the Pioneers built a 28-14 halftime lead.

The win improves East Ridge’s record to 2-1 on the young season. The Pioneers will host Central next Friday at Raymond James Stadium.

East Ridge quarterback Alonzo Russell was 7-of-13 for 134 yards, including a 40-yard scoring strike to Marquis Hinton.

Signal Mountain, which remains winless on the year, amassed 360 total yards to East Ridge’s 295. However, the Pioneers protected the ball, turning it over only once while forcing four Eagle turnovers.
