Hurst Endorses Gravitt for Register of Deeds

March 5, 2018 By Dick Cook and Contributed Article 0 Comments

Pam Hurst, Hamilton County’s Register of Deeds, announced her formal support and endorsement of Marc Gravitt, GOP Candidate in the May 1st primary today.

“The role of Register requires the ability to effectively manage resources and work with a fantastic team that serves the public. Marc Gravitt understands this office from the perspective of both a customer and an elected official and will be best for the job,” noted Hurst, who announced her planned retirement last summer.

The Office of the Register of Deeds operates as the guardian of all critical legal documents, such as property deeds, mortgages, powers of attorney and military discharges, and oversees the collection of levies and fees statutorily required within the Office’s jurisdiction. The annual budget is approximately $1 million with sixteen employees working in the Hamilton County Courthouse.

“Pam Hurst has spent 24 years as a dedicated public servant. By being a pioneer in the use of technology in the Register’s Office, Pam, along with her staff, has made this office one of the most efficient, customer-friendly in Tennessee. I will work to continue her priority of providing excellent customer service and leading a fantastic staff and
am so very grateful for her show of support and trust,” commented Gravitt, completing his fourth year in the Tennessee House of Representatives. “Professionalism and public trust have been the standard and that will continue.”

Pam Hurst was first elected in 1994 and has led the office to implement the digital availability of documents, transitioned the staff to extended office hours to meet the public need and operated the office annually without budget overruns.

“It’s been a privilege to serve the citizens of Hamilton County and I know that Marc shares my view of his role as a public servant, first, then as an employee of  government,” observed Hurst.

The Hamilton County Republican Primary Election is Tuesday, May 1 with Early Voting beginning on Wednesday, April 11.
