A Tennessee candidate for governor’s campaign made a stop in East Ridge, Wednesday, as Diane Black’s husband, Dr. David Black, spoke at Wally’s Restaurant.
According to our friends at News Channel 9, Dr. Black met with veterans for a round table discussion at the popular East Ridge restaurant.
Dr. David Black shared his story of serving the country in Vietnam and listened to concerns from veterans in the community on Wednesday morning.
Black said it is important to have a family serving the state of Tennessee that understands the sacrifice of military personnel.
Some key talking points were from vets who have concerns with the lack of medical access in the region along with better care for law enforcement and first responders.
One veteran, who served for 28 years, says he is worried about paying more into retirement benefits and receiving less while after retirement.
“If I’ve spent 28 years in the military, two tours to Iraq and somebody’s making the decision on my retirement, I at least want them to have had walked the walk,” said veteran Kevin Baker.
Black said veterans and active military personnel are priorities.
“[Diane] would be of the same type of response,” Black said.
“A concern of making sure, ‘What are we doing right? What are we doing wrong? What can we do better? How do we think outside the box to make sure we address the needs?'”
Dr. Black also visited one of the Fallen Five memorials during his visit and planned to stop in Bradford County for another “meet and greet” with veterans. Diane Black is in Washington, D.C. for a meeting with President Trum
