Police Briefs for Jan. 19

January 19, 2016 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

full_579_ 3415 Crabtree Dr.: Police were dispatched to the address last week in reference to a civil matter. According to an affidavit of complaint, when officers arrived they spoke with a man who said that his son, Scott Carden, had taken off with the man’s grandson. Police were told that the child was Carden’s son but that he doesn’t have custody of the one-year-old boy. The grandfather told officers that Carden was running south bound on South Seminole with the child in his arms. The report states that officers caught up with Carden, who was acting “irate” and told officers that the child did not need to be with his grandfather. Carden alleged that the child’s grandfather had sexually assaulted the boy and that the police officer was not going to take the child from him. The report states that the officer told Carden that because of the cold weather he needed to put the child inside of his patrol car. Carden told the officer that that “wasn’t going to work” and started walking off. The report states that Carden then walked into traffic and told the officer that he would not give up the child.

The report states that Carden then walked up to a random house and started knocking on the door, stating he had to get the child to safety. The report states that police asked Carden numerous times to turn the child over to an officer before finally complying. The report states that when an officer began talking with Carden that Carden attempted to talk the child back. When an officer attempted to take Carden into custody, the report states that he resisted. Carden was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

The report states that the child’s grandfather told officers that Carden had taken bath salts, methamphetamine and “some type of medication.” He also told police that Carden had made several threats about harming himself. The report states that it was obvious that Carden was on some type of narcotics “based on the way he was acting and talking with police.”

Carden was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication, Child Endangerment and Resisting arrest.

_ 1702 Prigmore Rd.: Police were dispatched to the address last week on a domestic disorder call. According to an affidavit of complaint, when police arrived they spoke with a  woman who told them her father, Todd Browning, had tried to choke her. The woman told officers that she was in the kitchen cooking when Browning became upset about a comment she made. The victim said Browning grabbed her by the neck and attempted to “choke” her. The report states that officers saw red marks around the women’s neck consistent with the accusation. Browning told officers that he did indeed grab his daughter, but he couldn’t specifically say on what part of her body. Browning said he did so because his daughter lunged at him first, a claim the victim denied. The report states that officers spoke with the victim’s two small children who witnessed the incident. Both children, aged 8 and 6, corroborated their mother’s version of events. The report states that Browning has a documented history of physical altercations with his daughters while intoxicated. The report states that Browning had an odor of alcohol on his breath and admitted to police that he had been drinking. Officers arrested Browning and charged him with Domestic Aggravated Assault. He is due to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Feb. 9.

_ 1305 Frederic Dr.: Police responded to the address last week on a domestic disorder. According to an affidavit of complaint, when police arrived they spoke with a woman who told them that she had been arguing with her child’s father, Justin Lawson, over her refusing to leave with him. The woman told police that he became angry and began pushing her through the residence. The report states that the victim told officers that Lawson pushed her down a set of stairs leading to the garage, causing her to hit her head as she fell to the ground. The victim states that Lawson then dragged her down the driveway to his vehicle where he attempted to force her inside. A witness told officers that he intervened and separated the pair. The victim then ran into the house and tried to lock herself inside a laundry room. The report states that Lawson forced his way into the room and locked the door behind him. He refused to allow the victim to exit the room. The victim told officers that Lawson “held her hostage” until he heard the sirens of responding police cruisers before opening the door and allowing her to leave. The report states that officers saw scratchs and redness on the back of the victim’s left arm, back, sides and a knot on the top of her head. EMS personnel responded to assess the woman’s injuries. Lawson was arrested on charges of Domestic Assault and False Imprisonment and jailed on $35,000 bond. He is due to appear in municipal court on Jan. 19.

_ 4024 South Terrace: Police were dispatched to the address last week on a domestic assault. According to an affidavit of complaint, the male victim told police that he went through his girlfriend’s phone after noticing that she was texting with another man. The girlfriend, Allison Gibson, became defensive, the report states, and a physical altercation ensued. The victim told police that she slapped and scratched him multiple times. The report states that Gibson allegedly knocked a cigarette out of his hand and when he bent down to pick it up she kneed him in the face. The victim told officers that Gibson put him in a choke hold and slung him into the bathroom door. The report states that the victim had visible bruising on his right eye and a scratch on the right side of his neck. Gibson was arrested on a charge of Domestic Assault and jailed on a $25,000 bond.
