UPDATE: BCA officials said they have received good news about crossing guard Shirley Huff on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Huff has no broken bones and is in good spirits surrounded by family and friends.

There is no news when Mrs. Huff may return to her post as crossing guard in front of BCA.

An East Ridge crossing guard was taken to the hospital this morning after being struck by a car.

According to the East Ridge Police Department, officers were called to the intersection of Belvoir and Fountain Avenues Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. on a pedestrian struck call. Officials said that the crossing guard at BCA had suffered a foot injury after apparently being struck by a car. The guard was taken to Erlanger Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

ERPD Capt. Tim Mullinax said the department is investigating the incident.

“That is a difficult intersection to patrol,” Capt. Mullinax said. “The speed limit is 15 miles per hour for a reason.

“She is there for a reason,” he said.

Officials at BCA identified the injured crossing guard as Shirley Huff, 75. Mrs. Huff is a beloved figure and has been a crossing guard for more than 30 years. BCA officials said that Mrs. Huff had worked most of her career as a crossing guard at the Belvoir/Fountain location.
