East Ridge police have charged a man with dumping a body that was discovered Thursday night near the tennis courts at East Ridge High School.

Nicohlas Sloan, 28, of a Hwy. 157 address in Cloudland, Ga., was charged with Abuse of a Corpse.

According to a press release from the East Ridge Police Department, the body is that of Jason Lamkin. No age or address was given for the man.

Officials said the victim’s family,  who arrived on scene shortly after police, provided information in regards to the investigation. Lamkin’s sister told investigators that  she had recently received a phone call from Sloan, who is a roommate and co-worker  of her brother. The woman said that Sloan told her that he had dropped the body at the East Ridge High School parking lot after he became unresponsive.

Officials said that Sloan was interviewed and stated that he had driven Lamkin to Shallowford Road and Moore Road to meet with an individual to purchase some pills. Sloan stated he was driving back to their apartment when he noticed Lamkin was unresponsive. Sloan stated that he nudged Lamkin and yelled at him to wake up and did not get any response.

Sloan said he pulled into the parking lot of the East Ridge High School and pulled Lamkin out of the vehicle. Sloan said he shook Lamkin and could not get any response.  Sloan said he then left Lamkin on the ground and continued to his apartment in the vehicle.

Sloan was taken to the Hamilton County Jail. He was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Nov. 29. Officials said further charges may be brought.

Police discovered Lamkn’s body at 8:33 p.m. after being called to the high school on a “well being check” call. Officers found an unconscious male on the ground.

East Ridge Fire and EMS arrived on scene shortly after and pronounced the male victim on the ground to be deceased. The scene was secured by officers and witness statements were taken from the bystanders.

Tim Carroll of the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified and arrived on scene at 9:48pm. The deceased was transported the Medical Examiner’s office.
