Christmas with the Metropolitan Bells

The Metropolitan Bells presents “Christmas with The Metropolitan Bells”
on Tuesday, December 10 at Brainerd Baptist Church, 300 Brookfield Avenue. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Metropolitan Bells is an advanced community handbell ensemble consisting of 16 auditioned ringers from the greater Chattanooga area.  They perform on seven octaves of Malmark bells and seven octaves of Malmark choir chimes.

Established by founding director, Ken Cochrane, The Metropoliban Bells has enjoyed performances with the Chattanooga Symphony, the Chattanooga Boys Choir and the Chattanooga Girls Choir.  The group has also performed for numerous civic groups and community events over the years.

The goal of the organization is to bring advanced sacred and secular handbell music to the community and to promote the art and enjoyment of handbell ringing.  Now in its 26th year, the group is under the direction of Gary Bynum. 

The Metropolitan Bells will also perform on Tuesday, December 17 at Christ United Methodist Church at 8645 East Brainerd Road.

All Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free to the public, however, donations are accepted.

Dick Cook has lived in East Ridge since the Kennedy Administration when his parents bought a house on Marietta Street. Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. Dick worked for the Chattanooga Free-Press and the Chattanooga Times Free Press for 22 years. Free-Press Sports Editor Roy Exum plucked him out of production in 1989 and gave him a job as a sports reporter. Dick covered everything from prep sports to the whitewater events on the Ocoee River for the 1996 Olympics. When Chattanooga's two paper's merged, he became the Crime Reporter covering both the Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
