Cruise-In Slated for May 6 at Corner Cafe

April 27, 2017 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

Get your hot rods out and start putting that extra coat of wax on it because the Corner Cafe spring “cruise in” is just around the corner, no pun intended.

Melissa Davenport, the proprietor of the popular East Ridge eatery, said for everyone to mark their calendars for Saturday, May 6. Yes, it’s Derby Day for all the folks who love to watch the ponies run, but the cruise in begins at 6 p.m. and will got on, officially, until 9 p.m.

“This is nostalgic,” said Davenport. “We do it because it brings back memories for many of our customers of the days of cruising around on Friday nights and listening to old music.

“It’s just happy,” she said. “It’s a happy time.”

Melissa said this is the fourth year that Corner Cafe has hosted a cruise-in. She said they host them in the spring, summer and fall. Last year there were 32 vintage cars of all makes and models that people could gawk over and wish they had never gotten rid of that ’55 Bel Air that was held together by bailing wire and “bondo.”

The Corner Cafe will be serving up classic tunes along with a limited menu featuring Good Ol’ American favorites like burgers and dogs. Oh, if you’re really looking for some nostalgia, Melissa said she will be serving the famous “sauce burger” made famous by the legendary Burger House.

“People talk about it before and after,” Davenport said of the event. “They really have a good time. People just love it.”

So, after the Kentucky Derby when your pick hasn’t panned out, put some salve on your wounds and go to the Corner Cafe to soak up some ambiance of days’ past and check out the classic thoroughbred autos.
