November 2, 2017 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

Officers with the East Ridge Police Department made a dent in the methamphetamine business in the city last night.

According to a press release from the department, officers seized two pounds of meth and $12,000 from a residence, Wednesday night.

The press release states that the bust stemmed from a traffic stop. Investigators obtained and served a search warrant on a residence “within the city of East Ridge.”

Multiple items of criminal evidence were seized, including the dope and the cash. Charges are pending as the investigation  is continuing.

ERPD officials said via the press release that no other information is available at this time.

_ Police have arrested a “validated gang member” on drug charges after the car he was riding in was pulled over during a traffic stop.

Demetrius Bibbs

According to the Hamilton County Jail, Demetrius Demond Bibbs, 25, of a Bailey Avenue address, was charged with Possession of Cocaine for Resale, Possession of Marijuana for Resale, Counterfeit Controlled Substance, Tampering with Evidence and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. It is unclear when he is due to appear in municipal court.

According to an affidavit of complaint, an officer stopped the Nissan Maxima in which Bibbs was riding for not having a functioning tag light. When an officer made contact with the vehicle, it had an “overwhelming odor of marijuana.” It was discovered that the driver and Bibbs both had revoked drivers licenses.

Due to the odor of marijuana, police conducted a search of the vehicle. According to the report, officers found a baggie with a small amount of white powder, suspected of being cocaine. The report states an officer also found a baggie with 17.1 grams of white powder inside. The driver of the vehicle told police that the substance was boric acid, used for an eye infection. The report states that this powder has been used as a cutting agent for cocaine.

After placing Bibbs into the back of a patrol car, officers noticed the car moving. Bibbs was removed from the patrol unit and officer searched the rear seat finding 2.4 grams of marijuana in three different clear baggies. Bibbs was also found to be in possession of $808, mostly in twenty dollar denominations.

According to the report, when Bibbs was strip searched at the jail he removed an item from his buttocks and stuck the object in his mouth. Bibbs was given verbal commands to spit the object out, but refused. Officers then returned to the patrol unit that transported Bibbs and again searched the back seat. Officers found a torn baggie and 7.4 grams of marijuana that had been scattered throughout the vehicle.

Warrants against the driver of the vehicle will be sought on a later date, the report states.
