Food City Aids Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

September 1, 2017 By Dick Cook and Contributed Article 0 Comments

ABINGDON, VA  – In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, Food City officials announced earlier today that the company is partnering with several local media affiliates to host a chain-wide fundraising campaign to benefit Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.  Food City has pledged a $10,000 contribution to kick-off the fund-raising efforts.

Beginning August 30th and continuing through September 6th, Food City locations throughout Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee and North Georgia will participate in the fundraising campaign.  Customers wishing to make a monetary donation will be invited to do so at the checkout, with their contribution added to their order total.  100% of the funds raised will be allocated between The Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse and The Houston Food Bank.

“Many residents in the Houston area have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey and the continuing flooding.  We’re proud to have the opportunity to team up with several of our local media partners to provide some much-needed assistance with the relief efforts,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.  “We encourage our loyal customers and associates to join us in support of this critical need.”

Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores (Food City’s parent company) operates 132 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, Chattanooga and north Georgia.
