February 16, 2019 By Dick Cook and Contributed Article 0 Comments

Sheriff Jim Hammond and the HCSO are sad to announce retired K-9 Deputy Zorro passed away on Sunday, February 10.

Zorro was born in 2007 and began his career in 2008 with the HCSO. He served with distinction until officially retiring in 2015. He was trained in criminal apprehension, handler protection, tracking, and narcotics detection. Zorro also assisted the federal Postal Service several times during his career by searching suspicious packages which ultimately resulted in numerous narcotic and money seizures.

During Zorro’s distinguished career, he was credited with assisting federal, state, and local law enforcement with numerous suspect apprehensions as well as countless narcotics seizures which ultimately led to successful prosecutions at the federal and state level.

During his well-deserved retirement, Zorro lived with his trusted handler and his family spending his days as a cherished friend and treasured companion.

The HCSO is proud of Zorro and his service to our community.
