Helen Sewell Passes Away at 96

Helen Norris Kellogg Sewell, 96, of East Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017. 

She was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Sewell; parents, Harry Clay Kellogg, Sr. and Nettie Wheler Norris Kellogg; three brothers, Billy James Kellogg, Harvey Ellsworth Kellogg and Harry Clay Kellogg, Jr.

 

Survivors include her sons, Larry Edward (Jane) Sewell and Randall Norris (Teresa) Sewell; Diane Sewell; grandchildren, Kelley (Tony) Weathers, Eric (Tiffanie) Sewell, Miranda (Ben) Gordon and Jake Sewell; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Weathers, Abbey Weathers, Hayden Sewell, Aubrey Sewell, Chandler Sewell, Chase Sewell, Dewey Gordon and Hugh Gordon; one sister, Mary Ella Kellogg Williams; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on  Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Steele officiating. 

There will be no visitation. 

Family and friends will assemble at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home at 9 a.m. on  Tuesday for a procession to the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.

Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. When Chattanooga's two paper's merged, he became the Crime Reporter covering both the Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
