Lady Pioneers Claim District Soccer Title

East Ridge’s Ana Villegas scored with 14 seconds left in the second overtime to lift the Lady Pioneers’  to a 1-0 win over Hixson in the finals of the District 8-2A soccer tournament, Friday at Hixson.

East Ridge (9-4-1) will now host McMinn Central in the semifinals of the region tournament on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Kendall Dickson was credited with the assist on Villegas’ winning goal. Lady Pioneers goalkeeper Sarah Hudgens recorded eight saves, as Hixson out-shot East Ridge, 14-7.

Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. When Chattanooga's two paper's merged, he became the Crime Reporter covering both the Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
