Man Arrested for Running Officer off Road and Pointing Gun at Him

October 26, 2017 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

East Ridge police arrested a Brainerd man, Wednesday, after he allegedly ran an off-duty officer off the street and then pulled a gun on him.

William Hughes Wright, 25, of 701 North Parkdale Avenue address, has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Theft of Property Under $500.

According to an affidavit of complaint, Officer Timothy Allison of the ERPD was off-duty and traveling in his personal vehicle in the 700 block of Marley Way when a Chevy Cruze approached his car at a high-rate of speed. The report states that Allison had to swerve off the road to avoid being struck by the oncoming vehicle.

The report states that Allison turned his vehicle around and followed in an attempt to get a tag number so he could issue the information to surrounding jurisdictions. According to the report, when Allison got behind the car, “the driver was observed sticking a black semi-automatic  firearm out of the window which was rolled down.”

According to Allison, the driver partially exited the vehicle and turned toward him while brandishing the weapon in his direction. The driver, described as a black male with short hair, goatee and wearing a red shirt, then got back in the car and drove away.

According to the report, Allison got the tag number and reported it to Hamilton County dispatch. Dispatch provided the owner’s name and address to police.

East Ridge police, accompanied by by Chattanooga PD went to the Parkdale Avenue address of the owner where the Cruze was found. At this time, the owner of the car said that her husband, Wright, also drives the vehicle. The report states that Wright was contacted via telephone and he walked to the address and was detained by police. Allison identified Wright as the man driving the car that pointed a weapon at him.

According to the report, Wright’s wife denied officers permission to search the Parkdale Avenue residence citing that “she did not want officer to confiscate her firearm or marijuana that was currently stored” in the house.

Police obtained and executed a search warrant for the house and the car. The firearm, a Springfield XD .40 caliber handgun with a mounted light was found on the nightstand in the bedroom. The firearm was verified as stolen from Chesapeake, Virginia. Narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also located during the search.
