More Than 50 People Apply for City Manager Job

More than 50 people have applied in hopes of becoming the next City Manager of East Ridge.

East Ridge News Online obtained a list of 55 people who had applied for the position which closed on Friday, Jan. 29. Of those applicants, two _ Amanda C. Miller and Christian Spindler _ list their hometown as East Ridge. 

Two others, Tyesha J. Preston and William R. Nichols are from Chattanooga. Williams B. Whatson and Christopher J. Dorsey have applied and given their residences as Hixson. Rosemary D. Carswell lists her address as Soddy-Daisy.

City officials said that the job was advertised with the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the International Association of City and County Managers and with the Tennessee Municipal League.

According to the job posting on the City’s Website, qualifications include per the City Charter a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with at least three years of direct supervisory experience in government. In addition, the council is looking for a person with experience in municipal finance, economic development and urban planning.

Dick Cook has lived in East Ridge since the Kennedy Administration when his parents bought a house on Marietta Street. Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. Dick worked for the Chattanooga Free-Press and the Chattanooga Times Free Press for 22 years. Free-Press Sports Editor Roy Exum plucked him out of production in 1989 and gave him a job as a sports reporter. Dick covered everything from prep sports to the whitewater events on the Ocoee River for the 1996 Olympics. When Chattanooga's two paper's merged, he became the Crime Reporter covering both the Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
