Police Briefs Aug. 24

August 24, 2017 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

_ 5408 Ringgold Rd.: Police were dispatched to the Valero gas station early Monday morning in regards to a burglar alarm. According to a police report, the alarm was triggered at 3:09 a.m. when someone had shattered the front glass door of the business. Police summoned the owner of the business and investigators to the scene. Officers reviewed surveillance of the incident which showed a black male suspect wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jean shorts, white socks and black and white striped sandals kick the glass door in and make entry into the building.

The report states the video shows  the suspect opening the cash register, removing cash and putting it into his front, right pocket. The suspect is also seen taking packs of cigarettes, while dropping a few other packs on the floor before exiting the building.

But the suspect wasn’t through. The video shows the suspect returning to  the business just minutes after leaving to help himself to a six-pack of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and a box of White Owl cigars.

The report states that it appeared that the suspect cut his hand while prying the glass panel off the door. Police located blood in several locations outside the business near several dropped items taken from the store. Those items, the report states, were collected at the scene and taken to ERPD as evidence.

The report states that an attempt will be made to gather surveillance video from surrounding businesses in an effort to gain more information on the suspect.

_ 3225 Castle Ave.: Police responded to the address recently on a reported theft. According to a police report, when officers arrived they spoke with a woman who said that someone had entered her Nissan Altima and had stolen her Michael Kors purse that was in the right floorboard of the vehicle. The purse the report states, contained a black Liz Clayborne wallet containing cash, credit cards, birth certificates and a drivers license. The victim also told police that her checkbook was taken from the car and that her registration documents may have been taken as well.

The vehicle doors were unlocked and there was no forced entry into the car, the report states.

The report states that investigators were unsuccessful in lifting any usable fingerprints of a possible suspect from the vehicle. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time.
