Police Briefs for Sept. 1

September 1, 2017 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

East Ridge police recovered four stolen vehicles, Friday, one of which was reported stolen from an East Ridge resident.

According to a press release, the 2013 Ford Taurus was found at 2311 Kirby Avenue in Chattanooga.  Police also located three other vehicles on the same property that had been reported stolen out of Chattanooga and Hamilton County.

All four vehicles had been taken with their keys inside the vehicle. The East Ridge Police Department would like to remind everyone to lock all doors and  remove keys and valuables from their cars. This includes spare keys to other vehicles that might be accessible to thieves.

Recent reported stolen autos have been predominately taken during nighttime auto burglaries or when vehicles had been left running but unattended.

_ 1503 McDonald Road: Police were dispatched to the Waverly Motel, Wednesday morning, on an “unknown trouble” call. According to a police report, dispatch advised the officer that a third party had called saying they could hear what sounded like a man assaulting a woman and the woman screaming for someone to call the law. When an officer arrived, he saw a man and a woman standing outside Room 112 smoking cigarettes.

Blake Lewis

The report states that when the officer began talking to the couple he saw blood on the man’s stomach. He also noticed blood on the window of the room. An officer spoke with the woman who told him that her husband, Blake Lewis, punched her in the mouth. The report states that the woman’s mouth was bloody and swollen and there was blood on her right bicep.

Lewis was detained and placed into the patrol car. Lewis’ wife told police that her husband has mental health issues and was upset for being out of work for two days. The report states that Lewis found a photo in his wallet of his wife’s family and accused her of having inappropriate relations with them. The victim told police that a verbal argument escalated into Lewis punching her in the mouth.

Lewis, 31, of a Lucedale, Mississippi address, was taken to the Hamilton County Jail where he was charged with Domestic Assault.

_ 2010 McBrien Rd.: Police were dispatched to the Delta Apartments, Tuesday, on a reported theft from an auto. According to a police report, officers spoke with a woman who said that sometime in the overnight hours someone had entered her unlocked 2012 Ford Focus and helped themselves to her belongings. The victim said the thief removed the vehicle’s dual-camera dash cam system and a cellphone charging cable. Value of the items was placed at about $150. According to the report, the victim told officers that her husband’s work truck had also been entered but nothing appeared to be missing. No suspect information at this time.

_ 6510 Ringgold Rd.: Police were approached by an employee of the 4As Inn, Tuesday, who wanted to turn over some property that was recently left in one of the motel’s rooms. According to a police report, the employee produced a sackful of ammunition, saying that it was found by a housekeeper in room 250. Police checked the sack and found that it contained about 150 unspent rounds of .22-caliber ammunition. According to the report, 4As staff provided police with information about who rented the room. The persons identified were both residents of Hamilton County and one, Monica Dodd, had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The items were taken and placed into property and evidence for safekeeping.
