Investigators stand outside of a room at the Cascades Motel Sunday morning after an anonymous caller alerted authorities that a man was dead inside the room.

UPDATE: The Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of Gino Picket a homicide.

According to the East Ridge Police Department, Picket, 51, of South Pittsburg was found with several injuries that were suspicious but not apparently life threatening. According to a press release, these injuries and prior health issues led to his death.

The investigation has been on-going and several witnesses have been interviewed. No arrests have been made at this time.

East Ridge police are investigating a suspicious death at the Cascades Motel that happened on Oct. 16.

Capt. Tim Mullinax said an anonymous 911 call placed by a woman at about 8:48 a.m. led police to room 42 in the front of the motel at 3657 Ringgold Road.

Capt. Mullinax said officers found a man dead in the bathroom with the shower running. Officials said the man was between the ages of 25 and 35. The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, officials said.

Officials said the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s office has been called in to assist in the investigation.

This is the second death at the Cascades in the lasts two years, records show. In February 2015, Reginald Ballard was found shot to death in one of the rooms in the back of the motel. Authorities have charged three people in his death.

In April, East Ridge police investigated a shooting at the motel. A woman was reportedly shot in the leg. Authorities said that the woman admitted to accidentally shooting herself.

East Ridge News Online will update this story when more information becomes available.
