Police Investigating Sunday Night Shooting

November 5, 2017 By Dick Cook 4 Comments

Crime scene tape surrounds a bay at the Speedway on Ringgold Road where the victim of a shooting in Chattanooga stopped his vehicle to report the incident.

East Ridge and Chattanooga police responded to the victims of a shooting at the Speedway convenience store, Sunday evening.

According to officials close to the investigation, the driver of a compact Nissan was shot on McBrien Road in Chattanooga just before 9 p.m.. The driver and a passenger, both believed to be juveniles, were unnerved and called police for help. The driver of the car, which was riddled with bullet holes, drove to the Speedway in the 4200 block of Ringgold Road where he was met by police and medical first responders.

The young male victim of the shooting was taken to Erlanger Medical Center. There is no information on his condition.

The passenger in the car told East Ridge News Online that the shooting happened on McBrien Road “near a church.” He was quickly pulled away from talking with reporters by an East Ridge officer.

It is believed the father of the victim responded to the Speedway convenience store, spoke with the young man who was the passenger, and immediately left the scene.

An East Ridge police officer said that any additional information about the investigation would be handled by the Chattanooga Police Department.

CPD homicide Detective Chris Blackwell, who had responded to the scene, said he had very few details about the shooting, but confirmed that it happened on McBrien Road within the jurisdiction of Chattanooga. He would not reveal where the victim or his passenger were from, as both were juveniles.

East Ridge News Online will update this story as more information becomes available.
