UPDATE: This statement from the ERPD: After conferring with the Hamilton County District Attorney’s office, charges against the juvenile involved in the shooting on Friday, February 5, have been upgraded to Reckless Homicide.

ERPD officials said late Saturday night that the victim in Friday’s shooting on Bennett Road has died. According to a press release, officials identified the victim as 16-year-old Monserrate Ferrar. Investigators will meet early next week with the Hamilton County District  Attorney’s Office to discuss the case.

Police have charged a 15-year-old boy with aggravated assault in connection with a Friday afternoon shooting on Bennett Road.

According to ERPD officials, the shooting was reported at 12:38 Friday inside a duplex at 4206 Bennett Rd. A 16-year-old boy was suffering from a single .380-cal. gunshot wound to the head, officials said. The victim was taken to Erlanger/Children’s Hopsital. There is no information concerning the condition of the victim at this time.

Chief J.R. Reed said investigators questioned the  15-year-old who was in the duplex at the time of the incident, and late Friday afternoon  charged him with Aggravated Assault. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center for processing, according to a press release.

A neighbor told East Ridge News Online that she heard two loud “bangs” sometime after 12:30. She said the duplex at 4206 has been occupied for the past 10 years by an elderly woman, her daughter and two “boys.” The neighbor said that the two juvenile males had brushes with the law in the past.

The neighbor said that a bullet had penetrated the wall into an adjoining duplex, but the woman who lives there was not at home at the time. However, police officials discount the woman’s assertion.

East Ridge News Online will update this story as more information becomes available.
