Stone Signs with Georgia Northwestern

May 17, 2017 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

For the second time in two weeks an East Ridge High School girls’ basketball player has signed to further their athletic career at the college level.

On Wednesday morning, Jayla Stone committed to play hoops with Coach David Stephenson’s Georgia Northwestern Technical College team. Stone, a high scoring guard, joins teammate Kyanna Kendrick on the Bobcat roster.

“Jayla is s super scorer, ball handler and she’s super quick,” Coach Stephenson said prior to Stone making it official with a signature on the documents. “Watching film of her is like watching a molecule jumping all over the place.”

Stone, a four-year starter, was the leading scorer on the Lady Pioneers’ squad last year, averaging 22 points a game, said Lady Pioneer Coach Lebron Williams. She has amassed about 1,800 career points.

“She’s been the bell cow here for sure,” Coach Williams said. “And, she’s an amazing young lady.”

Stone is one of seven East Ridge athletes to continue playing on the college level. According to Williams, three football players, two softball players and now two girls’ basketball players will parlay their athletic skills into college scholarships.
