Suspect Arrested in Kirby Avenue shooting

The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) has arrested a suspect in connection with a non-fatal shooting that occurred on October 8, 2025, in the 2300 block of Kirby Avenue. 

The suspect, Demetrius Carter (03/31/2002) was located by CPD’s Fugitive Unit. CPD’s Homicide Unit has charged Carter with Attempted First Degree Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He is in custody at the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.

This information is preliminary and is subject to change as the investigation continues. Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525.

The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.
