You Want to ‘Thrive’?

November 18, 2017 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

Many people driving by Pioneer Frontier playground this week may have noticed men working to install what on first blush appeared to be a sculpture. Actually, it’s a first-of-its-kind outdoor workout station that can be used to “sculpt” bodies.

GameTime, the same outfit that built the playground near the amphitheater at Camp Jordan, installed the “Thrive 450,” a full body circuit trainer that can be used by everyone from  … to elite athletes.

On Friday afternoon, Kent Callison, GameTimes’ Director of Marketing, oversaw a photo shoot for his company’s equipment catalog.

“(Thrive 450) is designed for outdoor use in green spaces,” Callison said. “We’ve found that people are more likely to workout outdoors than in a gym. We wanted to tap into that.”

This innovative workout station valued at $42,000, was recently purchased by the city for $15,000. Officials said the deep discount was a result of GameTime wanting the Thrive 450 up and running so it could be highlighted in the company’s marketing campaign.

The Thrive 450 (it has a 450 square-foot footprint) is made of metal and plastic. It’s got multiple workout features, including a graduated push-up station, overhead ladder, a sit-up station, pull-up and climbing station, and platforms for step-ups.

Callison said the design emphasizes “plyometric” exercises, promoting explosive movements that provides enhanced cardiovascular benefits.

Multiple people can work out at the same time on the Thrive 450. And being in a public space there are no gym memberships;  everyone is welcome to use it.

An official “grand opening” of the Thrive 450 will be held sometime after the first of the year, officials said.
