ER Parks & Recreation to Present Annual Award in Honor of Heinrich

January 28, 2016 By Dick Cook and Contributed Article 1 Comment

SerenityOn January 27, Serenity Grace Heinrich was laid to rest at the Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park.

The death of the precious 5-year-old daughter of Grace and Steven left is all deeply saddened. The pain of her loss to those of us at East Ridge Parks and Recreation pierced our hearts.

Understand that each and every youngster you have the pleasure to watch grow and work with through sports takes ownership of a portion of our hearts forever.

Serenity will always have a place in our hearts because of her loving smile and delightful personality.  She will always be with us because of the joy she spread to those who met her in person, and the thousands who followed her courageous fight through the Holiday season against pneumonia before the Lord took her home to play on the streets of gold.

There’s a picture being shared on Facebook of clouds above the little darling’s gravesite on Wednesday that forms the letter “S” for Serenity.

East Ridge Parks and Recreation doesn’t want any of you to forget the way Serenity lived, the way she played and the battle she fought to return to the baseball fields to play or the sidelines of the East Ridge Scenic City Youth Football team where she was proud to be a cheerleader.

For those dedicated to coaching there are true blessings and life lessons you receive from each player you coach.

The life lessons Serenity taught us are numerous.

The thousands upon thousands who prayed constantly for her to win the battle will never forget her fight.

The East Ridge policemen and firemen turned out on Wednesday at Jones Memorial Church to provide a loving and classy escort for our little hero’s last ride.

Because of Serenity’s love for Superman, the East Ridge Parks and Recreation will have sticker’s for each helmet of every East Ridge youth football player to place on their head gears during the 2016 season.

In addition, the Parks and Recreation will present an annual award in Serenity’s name to the East Ridge girl whose spirit best depicts the spirit she displayed.

The Parks and Recreation staff is now working to develop the criteria for Serenity’s award.
