August 2, 2023 By Contributed Article 0 Comments

Millage Rate Rollback Proposed

RINGGOLD – The Catoosa County Board of Commissioners received the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget for review that includes a rollback millage rate of 6.287 mills. The FY 2023 millage rate was 7.348 mills.

Millage rates are used with property assessments to calculate a home’s annual property taxes. As an example, using the average fair market value of a Catoosa County home of $225,000, the annual Catoosa County Government portion of a home’s annual property tax would be calculated with several factors:

  • 40% of Assessed Value: $90,000
  • County Homestead Exemption: – $2,000
  • State Homestead Exemption: -$18,000
  • Taxable Value: $70,000
  • Proposed mileage rate: 6.287 mills
  • Proposed FY 2024 County tax: $440.09

The General Fund Proposed Budget for FY 2024 is $41,215,311 and will fund mission critical public safety and general government operations. It is available for public review at the Administrative Offices Building, 800 Lafayette Street, Ringgold, and on the Catoosa County Government website at www.catoosa.com.

The Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed FY 2024 budget on Tuesday, August 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Administrative Offices Building, 800 Lafayette Street, Ringgold. The Board is scheduled to adopt the FY 2024 budget during a special called meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 22 at 12:00 p.m.
