Catholic Wins Home Opener in Middle School Baseball

March 8, 2024 By Contributed Article 0 Comments

Jake Thomas homered twice and drove in five runs, as Catholic downed Grace Academy, 14-2, in its home opener Thursday in middle school baseball.

Catholic scored eight runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach. Thomas’ three-run homer to centerfield was the big knock. Nicholas Pendergrass had an RBI single, Cooper Grant had a two-run single, and Myles Pruitt knocked in a couple more on a double in the big inning.

All told, Catholic had amassed 10 hits. Pruitt went a perfect 3-for-3. Catholic was selective at the plate, collecting 13 walks. Catholic baserunners also stole 13 bases.

Thomas also got it done on the mound as a starter. He didn’t allow a hit as he struck out the side. Nathan Wesson came on in relief and gave up only one hit.

Defensively, Catholic was sure-handed in the field, committing no errors
