COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. _  The Collegedale Police Department has hired four additional police officers, increasing the department’s full-time sworn strength from 29 to 33 officers.

The new positions were made possible through the continued support of the Collegedale City Commission and its commitment to investing in public safety, officer safety, and the level of service provided to the community.

“We are grateful to the members of the Collegedale City Commission for recognizing the importance of maintaining appropriate staffing as our community continues to grow and change,” Police Chief Jack Sapp said. “Their support allows us to strengthen our department, provide our officers with additional resources and backup, and continue delivering the level of service Collegedale residents expect.”

All four new officers will be assigned to the Patrol Division, increasing patrol staffing from 19 to 23 officers. Patrol officers provide the department’s around-the-clock response to calls for service, traffic safety, neighborhood and business patrols, crash investigations, and other public safety needs throughout the city.

The additional officers will improve the department’s ability to maintain consistent patrol coverage when personnel are unavailable because of training, vacation, illness, court appearances, or other obligations. The increased staffing will also provide greater flexibility for officer backup, proactive policing, traffic safety, and community engagement.

The department’s responsibilities extend beyond Collegedale’s residential population. Each day, thousands of additional people enter the city to work, attend school, shop, visit businesses, and travel through the community. The additional officers will help the department meet those demands while maintaining a strong public safety presence throughout Collegedale.

“The City Commission’s decision is an investment not only in the people who live, work, attend school, and travel through Collegedale, but also in the men and women who serve this community around the clock,” Sapp said. “These additional officers will strengthen officer safety and help us continue providing professional, responsive service to our community.”
