ABINGDON, VA  – Food City officials recently announced the promotion of Dan Glei to Executive Vice President of Merchandising/Marketing.   Glei formerly held the position of Vice President of Center Store Operations for the retail supermarket chain.  He brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the position.

“Dan has done a great job with our center store, leveraging his experience in the grocery and consumer package goods industry since his arrival at Food City,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City President and Chief Executive Officer.  “He has proved to be a valuable asset to our company and I am confident that his service in this key position will enable us to continue to advance and improve upon our merchandising and marketing strategies.”

Food City recently acquired a number of Bi-Lo stores in the area, including East Ridge.

Prior to joining the Food City team in 2014, Glei served in a number of capacities for Ahold USA/Giant Food Stores, including Senior Vice President Merchandising, Senior Vice President Brand & Format Development and Senior Vice President e-commerce.

His new responsibilities with Food City include the functional areas of merchandising, marketing, and procurement, field supervision, merchandising support and leading the collaboration with consumer product goods partners.

“We have a simple philosophy for all of our merchandising and marketing efforts.  We always  think about our customer’s first and then take care of our stores,” says Glei “And results are quickly realized.”

Glei holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing from Michigan State University. He currently resides in Abingdon, VA with his wife, Leigh and daughter, Sarah.

Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores operates 105 retail food outlets throughout the tri-state regions of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.  They just recently announced the acquisition of 29 BI-LO supermarkets in Chattanooga, Tennessee and north Georgia.
