Police were dispatched to the Motel 6 on Camp Jordan parkway early Saturday morning after management noticed suspicious activity.
According to a police report, a night manager told police that a room had been rented to a woman at 2 a.m.. However, since that time the night manager had noticed a number of different people, both men and woman, coming and going.
When officers went to the room they were greeted by two women and a man in the room. When an officer was speaking with one of the women, another officer noticed the man sitting in a chair on his hands in an “awkward position.” When the officer asked the man to stand up, he dropped an empty syringe from his right hand. The man was detained and removed from the room, the report states.
The woman who was talking to a second officer said the room was rented by Brandy Stewart, who had methamphetamine somewhere in the room. The woman volunteering information permitted officers to search the room, the report states. When Stewart, who was sitting on a bed near a door, moved to a chair, officers noticed a zip up black bag. When officers inspected the bag they found two ziplock bags inside containing what was believed to be methamphetamine, a digital scale and an empty syringe. The approximate weight of the methamphetamine was found to be 40 grams, the report states.
Stewart was taken into custody and upon being searched officers found an additional four grams of meth concealed in her bra. The report states that officers also found an RG16 handgun in a nightstand next to where Stewart was sitting. The serial number of the weapon had been removed, the report notes.
Stewart, 42, of Ooltewah, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine for Resale, Possession of a Firearm during a Dangerous Felony and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was jailed under a $31,500 bond. Stewart is due to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on March 7.
_ Police arrested a 28-year-old Chattanooga man recently in regard to an incident which happened last fall. Kendrick Bush of a Hoyt Street address was charged with Criminal Simulation, Possession of Marijuana for Resale and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is due to appear in municipal court on March 14.
According to a police report, officers were patrolling in the 900 block of Altamaha Street back in October when they spotted a car with an altered license plate sticker in the driveway of a residence with “heavy narcotic activity and stolen vehicle complaints.”
As officers checked out the car, a man later identified as Bush opened the front door and quickly closed it. When officers knocked on the door they heard a door open at the back of the residence. Bush told officers that another man had taken off out the back. That man was quickly subdued by officers, the report states.
Bush, told officers that the man had taken off because the car in the driveway had been stolen. Once officers confirmed the car as stolen, they inventoried the vehicle, finding a backpack that Bush said he owned. Inside the pack was a black and silver safe secured with a combination lock. Bush opened the safe for the officers and inside was 5.2 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and multiple credit cards. A partially completed check belonging to a woman who will not be identified was also located.
The report states that other partially written checks from the same woman’s account were located inside the Altamaha house where Bush was. Police also found multiple pieces of paper inside the residence that contained account numbers, routing numbers and financial information from various parties.
The report states that “credit cards, driver’s licenses, social security cards, insurance cards, banking account information and other information were recovered” in Bush’s possession. The information discovered belonged to 15 different people, including one man who is currently serving a prison sentence for murder.
