Catholic’s undefeated streak continues with  a 28-8 victory over Sale Creek this week at Red Bank Middle School.

The Rams moved to 6-0 after a dominating performance against the Panthers.   Catholic scored on their opening drive when Dallas Brown found Bennett Brinson in the end-zone on a 14-yard strike.  It was Brinson’s first action since going out with an injury during the pre-season jamboree.  The two-point conversion attempt was successful when QB C.J. Petrin completed a pass to Brown.  The score stood 8-0.

Despite being able to move the ball, Sale Creek was forced to punt on their opening possession.    Catholic took over on their own 34 , and ground out a long, sustained drive burning up much of the quarter.  The possession included a 27-yard pass from Petrin to Tucker Berry.  Catholic scored when Brown ran a QB keeper for a 16-yard touchdown.

Sale Creek was able to drive to the Catholic 11-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.  The score at the half stood  14-0, Catholic.

Sale Creek managed a touchdown in the third quarter, pulling the score to 14-8.   The score came courtesy of a Bryson Targett to Todd Jones 18-yard TD pass.  The conversion was scored by Chris Peterson.   Catholic answered  Sale Creek with a 48-yard touchdown run by Brown.  Brinson scored the two-point conversion on a pass from Brown.

The teams traded possessions until Catholic scored again on an Alex Osbourne 44-yard scamper, aided by key blocks from Maverick Tucker and Brendan Greene.   The game ended when Carson Barasha intercepted an errant pass.

The Catholic defense forced three turnovers in the game.  The Barasha interception, plus fumble recoveries by  Dilon Farmer and Jason Oliver.  Brinson was the leading tackler for Catholic.  Brown scored two touchdowns rushing, and threw for another. Alex Osbourne finished the afternoon with over 100 yards rushing, plus a touchdown.

Following the game Catholic coach Billy Dearing commented “it was great getting Brinson back on the field, he’s a warrior.”  Coach Bucky Dearing quipped “as long as our offensive line keeps up the intensity, we will be successful.  Ben Bambrey played a great game.”

Catholic’s next opponent is Sequatchie County, while Sale Creek takes on Lookout Valley.
