Catholic Downs Sequatchie

September 16, 2015 By Dick Cook 0 Comments

Catholic moved to 7-0 with a hard fought 18-8 victory over Sequatchie County, Tuesday.

The game was played in front of a nearly full house at Wayne Reynolds Field in Sequatchie County.  Sequatchie was celebrating homecoming.  It was a great setting for a football game.

Catholic received the opening kick-off.  The Rams were able to methodically move the ball, chewing up nearly the entire first quarter.  Reeve Mullinax had several 6-to-7 yard carries. Catholic scored when Dallas Brown drove the ball into the end zone from three yards out.  Brown picked up key blocks from Dilon Farmer, Maverick Tucker and Ben Bambrey. Sequatchie stymied the conversion attempt. catholic beats sequatchie

Sequatchie County went three and out on its opening drive.  Brendan Greene recorded a 4-yard tackle-for-loss during the series.  Sequatchie punted to the Catholic 32-yard line.  The Rams once again burned a great deal of clock and scored again on a short Dallas Brown run.   The conversion attempt failed.   The score stood 12-0 at the half.

The Rams padded the lead to 18-0 when C.J. Petrin completed a touchdown pass to Brown.

Throughout much of the remainder of the game, the Catholic defense kept Sequatchie at bay.  Greene, Mullinax and River Stump recorded multiple stops.  Brown came up with two interceptions.  Sequatchie got on the scoreboard when Gavin Lee scampered for a 23-yard touchdown.  Lee also scored the two-point conversion for Sequatchie, leaving a final score of 18-8.

Following the contest Coach Billy Dearing complimented the Catholic defense.  “We had a great, swarming attack.  Brendan Greene played a whale of a game,” he said.

Coach Bucky Dearing praised the offensive line.  “Bambrey and the entire line made plenty of running lanes today against a very big and physical team.  And Dallas continues to have a phenomenal season on both sides of the ball,” he said.

Catholic will play at Lookout Valley Monday evening,  while Sequatchie takes on South Pittsburgh in a Thursday night battle.
