ERHS Announces Second ‘Hall of Fame’ Class

East Ridge High School officials announce the second class of the ERHS Athletic Hall of Fame, that will be inducted at halftime of the East Ridge/Hixson football game on September 25 at Shanks Field/Raymond James Stadium.

The Members are:

1. ED FOSTER – ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – 1986-1988, PRINCIPAL – 1988-1998, TSSAA Legislative Council, Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame.

 2. LYNN FOX – FOOTBALL, WRESTLING, TRACK – 1964-1968 – 1973 National Champion 440 relay – Memphis, Missouri Valley 7 time Sprint Champion, University of Memphis and Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame .

 3,  CHERYL GANNON – BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, CHEERLEADING – 1963-1967 – All District, Region – State Basketball, Volleyball .

4.  LYNN GOSS – WRESTLING, FOOTBALL, BASEBALL – 1964-1969 – COACH WRESTLING, CROSS COUNTRY, TRACK – 1977-1986 – State Champion Wrestler – 1966-67, State Champion Coach Wrestling, Chattanooga Sports and National Wrestling Halls Of Fame – … he was the first wrestler to earn the triple crown … win an individual state title, be a member of a state championship team and coach a team to a state title …  won state titles in 1966 and 1967 as individual and team and coached E.R to state titles in 1984-84.

 5.  BECKY HERD LIVELY- CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK – 1985-1987 – State runner-up in Cross Country in fall of 1986 and Track State Champion – Mile Run in spring 1987 – voted most athletic female as a senior …. School Record in 3 mile Cross Country Run.

 6.  MIKE ODOM – FOOTBALL, TRACK – 1962-1965 – All State Football 1965, School Record in Rushing – 1965, Track School Record in Pole Vault – 1965, Played Football in College, Has been on PGA, Canadian, and Asian Golf Tour, Coach of Golf at Decatur Christian School.

 7.  MIKE OLINGER – COACH BASKETBALL – 1979-1990 – Basketball coach at ER – 1979-1994, Coached Golf and Track at ER, Coached Basketball at Madisonville.  Had record of 235-162. Deceased – Son Travis – has coached Basketball and Football at ER as well.

 8.  JIMMY STARLING – FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, BASEBALL – 1964-1967 – COACH BASKETBALL – 2002-2011, FOOTBALL – 1989-1994, Played Basketball, Football, and Baseball at ER.  All City – 3 years Baseball, Honorable Mention All City Football, Jimmy coached Basketball, Baseball,  and Football at ER and was named Coach of year in all.  1989-1994 and 2002-2011. 

9.  CHUCK STRICKLAND – FOOTBALL, WRESTLING, TRACK – 1967-1970 – Participated in Football, Wrestling, and Track at ER – All City and County in Football, Discus In Track, 3rd in Heavyweight in 1970 – Played Football at Alabama and was 3 year starter at Middle Line Backer – Named All SEC – was first in tackles on team JR and Sr.  Named Pre Season All American – Jr and Sr – Team was SEC Champions 1971-1973, lost only one game in 3 seasons, and won National Championship in 1973 – Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame.

10.  LESLIE WILLIAMSON – BASKEBALL, VOLLEYBALL – 1965-1968 – averaged 33 points a game in Sr year – all City and all District – All tournament and MVP for Basketball and Volleyball in Jr and Sr year. – top scorer in state – Sr year – all state Basketball – Sr.

Officials said they encourage everyone to come and help welcome these deserving former East Ridge athletes, coaches and administrators into the Hall of Fame.

Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. Dick worked for the Chattanooga Free-Press and the Chattanooga Times Free Press for 22 years. Free-Press Sports Editor Roy Exum plucked him out of production in 1989 and gave him a job as a sports reporter. Dick covered everything from prep sports to the whitewater events on the Ocoee River for the 1996 Olympics. When Chattanooga's two paper's merged, he became the Crime Reporter covering both the Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
