Police Briefs Jan. 29

January 29, 2019 By Dick Cook 1 Comment

_ 1410 N. Mack Smith Rd.: On Saturday morning police were dispatched to the Budgetel in regard to an auto theft. According to a police report, a woman told officers that she went outside her “apartment” to go to work and she discovered that her 1993 Honda Civic was gone. The victim told police that she last saw the vehicle at 11 p.m. on Friday evening. The victim said she still had the keys to the car, which she recently had purchased from a man. She still owed $100 of the $700 purchase price, the report states. The victim said that the man who previously owned the car may have taken it because she refused to be in a relationship with him. The report states that the victim had a signed title for the vehicle. It was entered into a law enforcement data base as stolen. Staff at the Budgetel said they would provide video surveillance of the parking lot after staff reviewed the media.

A separate police report  states that the vehicle was recovered from the parking lot on Sunday. Patrick Morrison, 28, of a 49th Street address in Chattanooga, was found inside the car with three other people. Morrison was charged with Theft of Property. A woman in the car, Ashley Stone, 33, of Rossville, was taken to the Hamilton County Jail on a theft warrant from the HCSO. Another person in the car, Michael Hall, 27, of an Elder Street address in Chattanooga, was picked up by officers from the Red Bank Police Department on unspecified warrants. The report states a fourth party was allowed to leave as he had no wants or warrants.

_ 4405 Ringgold Rd.: Police responded to Advance Auto Parts, Sunday evening, on a reported theft. According to a police report, when officers arrived they spoke with an employee who said that a woman had come into the store and bought four auto air fresheners using a $100 traveler’s check. The clerk accepted the check and returned $91.28 to the woman in change. The woman attempted to buy two more air fresheners with a separate traveler’s check and the employee explained that she couldn’t make change on another check. The report states that the suspect became angry when the employee couldn’t negotiate the second sale. The employee told officers that she then went outside the store to get another employee to help with the situation. As they were returning to the store, the suspect brushed by them through the door. The report states that when the employee went back to check the register the traveler’s check was gone. According to the report, the employee told officers that the suspect popped the cash drawer open in the 30 second she had gone outside. Police were given the make and model of vehicle the suspect left in, but specifics were not provided in the report.
