Game Night Rolls

November 13, 2015 By Dick Cook and Melissa Davenport 0 Comments

dinner rollsToday I thought I would share with you a tasty little snack we make for family game night. I found out about these scrumptious treats while at a friends house. She made them for a get together, and let’s just say I don’t remember the occasion or who was at the party but I do remember these rolls.

It seems in looking at old recipes these were originally called funeral rolls. Funeral rolls is a little morbid for game night so I am taking the liberty of a little name change here. Do yourself and those you love a favor and make these at your next gathering, you won’t be sorry.

Game Night Rolls

2 Packages Small Dinner Rolls (I use the Colonial Brand that comes in the silver tray)

1 Pound Thinly Sliced Ham

8 Oz. Package Sliced Swiss Cheese

2 Sticks Butter

2 tsp. Dijon Mustard

2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce

1 and ½ Tbsp Poppy Seeds (optional)

2 Tbsp Grated Onion ( I just grate a bit on a fine cheese grater)

Remove sheets of rolls from pans and carefully slice rolls in half. You will have a top and a bottom sheet of rolls. Place bottom sheets of rolls back into pans. Cover bottom with a layer of Swiss cheese and top with a layer of ham.

In a small saucepan melt butter. Stir in mustard, Worcestershire, grated onion, and poppy seeds (if using).

Brush top half of bread with a bit of the butter mixture and place back in pans atop the ham.

Pour the remaining butter mixture over rolls.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Watch them around the 15 minute mark to make sure they don’t get too brown.

Remove from oven and score with a spatula before serving. Serve warm. Swoon!
