A man and his wife have been accused of child abuse after their daughter reached out for help at school.
According to an affidavit of complaint, Micaela Paiz Tercero, 39, of a Rose Street address, was charged with Aggravated Child Abuse. Her husband, Victor Xavier Escandon, is facing a Child Abuse or Neglect charge. They are being held in the Hamilton County Jail under $25,000 and $10,000 bond, respectively. The couple are scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Jan. 12, 2016.
According to police reports, an officer responded to East Ridge High School last week on a delayed assault call. With the help of a Spanish interpreter, a juvenile girl told the officer that her mother, Paiz Tercero, had been abusive toward her. The girl told police that on Dec. 1 her mother got mad at her, heated up a knife on the stove and tried to burn the girl’s mouth the knife. The girl told police that she tried to resist, buy Paiz Tercero grabbed her by the ponytail and burned the girl’s mouth. The girl said her mother also burned the girl’s hand. The report states that the police officer saw burns on the girl’s lip and left hand.
The juvenile also told police that Paiz Tercero beat her with a belt multiple times. The report states that the officer saw large bruises on the girl’s leg, one bruise on her calf and one on her forearm.
The report states that the girl told police numerous times that she did not want to return to her home with her parents. The girl “acted frightened,” the report notes, as she was crying and upset.
The girl told police that her father, Miguel Jacinto Lopez, knows about the abuse, and that he hits her whenever Paiz Tercero tells him to. The girl told police that on Dec. 1 her father got mad at her and grabbed her by the hair and threw her on the floor. The girl also told police that her father kicks her.
_ A Spring Creek Road man has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Retaliation Against Police after officers were called to his home early Saturday morning on a disorder.
According to a police report, officers were en route to the Spring Creek address when they were told to go to Parkridge East Hospital. When police arrived, they spoke with Raymond Curtis Shook, 32, who claimed he was assaulted by his girlfriend after they returned home from work. The report states that officers could smell alcohol on Shook’s breath and that his speech was slurred when he was talking.
While officers were talking with Shook, dispatch informed them that Shook’s girlfriend and her son were calling from another location on Ringgold Road to also report a delayed assault. When police spoke with the girlfriend’s son, he told officers that Shook had assaulted him at their apartment on Spring Creek Road. The son told police that he overheard his mother and Shook in a verbal altercation and that Shook was saying derogatory things about the son, including that Shook was going to force the son to leave the apartment. The son told officers that Shook came into the son’s bedroom and stood over him while he was in bed, yelling at him that he had to leave.
The son told police that Shook put one hand behind his neck and the other in front and began to apply pressure. The victim told officers he could not break free of Shook, and that his mother entered the room and attempted to pull Shook off of him. The victim told police that in an attempt to defend himself, he hit shook in the head and torso.
The victim told officers that he and his mother were able to get out of the apartment. They went to a location on Ringgold Road and called police.
When officers arrested Shook and were taking him to the Hamilton County Jail for booking, the report states that Shook became “extremely agitated and irate. The report states that Shook told officers that when he bonded out he would “go choke that b—-.” Shook also allegedly told one officer “wait until one day when you are without that badge in East Ridge and I see you. I’ll beat your ass.”
Shook is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Jan. 19, 2016.
