Area under Flood Watch

March 1, 2018 By Dick Cook and Contributed Article 0 Comments

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for our area.

Extended rain event continues today and is expected to cause flooding in some areas… Steady rains along with some heavier showers will continue to soak the region today.

Some areas have already received soaking rains over the past 24 hours and with more rain on the way, localized flooding is possible. Expect flooding in some low spots as well as some of our area creeks and rivers to continue to rise. There are reports of flooding in the 5600 block of Clemons Road in East Ridge.

So far the heaviest rains have been in southeast Tennessee and along the southern Cumberland Plateau, but areas farther north in the Flood Watch should expect precipitation totals to continue to climb through the day as occasional periods of moderate to heavy rains move through.

The precipitation should rapidly diminish later this afternoon and evening, although some creeks and rivers will continue running high.
