Minutes from Sept. 9 Housing Commission Meeting

The East Ridge Housing Commission met pursuant to notice on September 9, 2019, 5:30 pm at East Ridge City Hall. Chairperson Winters called the meeting to order.

Present were: Chairperson Jim Winters, Boardmember Jeff Ezell, Boardmember Ken Rogers, Boardmember Earl Wilson and Attorney Mark Litchford. Absent: Boardmember Lynda Stephens.

Chairperson Winters led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Election of Chairman – Earl Wilson made a motion to elect Jim Winters Chairman and Kenneth Rogers seconded the motion.

Election of Vice Chairman – Jeff Ezell made a motion to elect Earl Wilson Vice Chairman and Kenneth Rogers seconded the motion.

5313 State Line Road – The Housing Commission moved and approved to pass this case to the October 14, 2019 meeting for an update on progress of repairs.

6619 State Line Road – The Housing Commission moved and approved to pass this case to the October 14, 2019 meeting. The owner shall provide the Housing Commission with the completed FEMA Substantial Improvement Form.

5603 Ringgold Road – The Housing Commission moved and approved to have the structure on the premises demolished within thirty (30) days from the September 9, 2019 meeting.

1302 Pleasant Street – The Housing Commission moved and approved to pass this case to the October 14, 2019 meeting for updates on progress.

1317 Pleasant Street – The Housing Commission moved and approved to have notice posted on the structure for demolition to occur on or around September 19, 2019.

5001 Fike Drive – The Housing Commission moved and approved to pass this case to the October 14, 2019 meeting in order to satisfy service to the current owners.

Dick Cook has lived in East Ridge since the Kennedy Administration when his parents bought a house on Marietta Street. Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. Dick worked for the Chattanooga Free-Press and the Chattanooga Times Free Press for 22 years. Free-Press Sports Editor Roy Exum plucked him out of production in 1989 and gave him a job as a sports reporter. Dick covered everything from prep sports to the whitewater events on the Ocoee River for the 1996 Olympics. When Chattanooga's two paper's merged, he became the Crime Reporter covering both the Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
