Mission Oaks Candle Lighting Slated for Monday

A long tradition in East Ridge continues on Monday evening, as Mission Oaks will have its Christmas candle lighting.

For many years the subdivision has observed the practice of its homeowners lighting candles along their sidewalks in observance of the holiday season.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Organizers said in the event of rain, the candle lighting will be held on Tuesday.

Firefighters from the East Ridge Fire Department will be on hand taking donations for its Needy Child Fund.

Dick Cook has lived in East Ridge since the Kennedy Administration when his parents bought a house on Marietta Street. Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
