Wilburn Eugene McBryar Passes

Wilburn Eugene McBryar, 83, of Chattanooga, TN and Panama City Beach, FL passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 in a local hospital.

He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Wilburn was a veteran of the National Guard. He was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Wilburn retired from Combustion/ABB Engineering after 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Management Society. He was an avid VOLS Fan and longtime ball coach in the East Ridge Youth Foundation. He was a strong, gentle and kind devout family man who was devoted to his Christian principles.

wilburn-mcbryar-copyHe was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Edith Hobbs McBryar; sister, Marie Crane; three brothers, Bruce McBryar, Charles McBryar and Tommy McBryar.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Wallen McBryar; two daughters, Regina M. Wright (James H. Jr.) and Susan M. Boyd (William G.); two grandchildren, James Hillman Wright III (Mary Kathryn) and Ashleigh Wright Cain (Jacob); four great-grandchildren, Wyatt Grant Cain, Brooks Hillman Cain, James Hillman Wright IV and Charles Brantley Wright; one brother, Kenneth McBryar, two sisters, Juanita Russell and Helen Manis; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Friday and from 11AM to 1PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Noland Smith, Chuck Wallen, Roger Wallen, Chris Jenkins, Russ Earp, Bill James, Kent Russell and Curtis Russell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class of Ridgedale Baptist Church, J. R. Earp, Ralph Fickle and additional nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgedale Baptist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , the American Arthritis Foundation or your favorite charity

Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
