UPDATE: The victims of Thursday evening’s fire on Adonna Lane have been identified. James (Freddy) Robertson, 62, was killed. Lisa Crowe, also 62, remains in critical condition.

One man was killed and a woman severely injured in a house fire late Thursday night.

According to an East Ridge Fire Department press release, firefighters were dispatched to 1302 Adonna Ln. at 10:39 p.m. on a residential fire. When emergency help got on the scene, fire and smoke was coming from the single-story house.

Chief Williams wrote in the press release that a bystander told firefighters that two people were inside the house. Crews immediately began a search and rescue operation and located the two victims, a man and a woman, and removed them from the burning house.

The victims were given medical attention on the scene before Lifeguard EMS took them to a local hospital. Chief Williams said the man died at the hospital. The woman is in critical condition.

The names of the victims are being withheld until family is notified, Chief Williams wrote in the press release.

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire Chief Williams said the following resources were utilized at the scene:
