Shortly before 7 pm Saturday, Chattanooga Police Officers responded to reports of an armed person in the 1400 block of E 17th Street. 

Officers arrived and made contact with the 53-year-old man holding a gun. Officers ordered the man to drop the firearm numerous times. The subject pointed his firearm at officers, who then opened fire.

Officers immediately began rendering aid until Hamilton County EMS arrived and transported the subject to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

At the request of the Hamilton County District Attorney, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.

The involved officers were placed on paid administrative leave per standard policy requirements.
