Law enforcement is investigating a Sunday morning incident involving a car fleeing a shooting scene that crashed into a house on South Seminole Drive.

According to East Ridge police the incident originated in Chattanooga. Assistant Chief Stan Allen said that a man fleeing the scene of a shooting crashed his car into a carport of a residence in the 1200 block of South Seminole just after 10 a.m. The car spun from the house into a neighbor’s yard. The driver of the car was injured during the crash and was taken to an area hospital. Officials said the man’s injuries were not life threatening.

Our friends at NewsChannel9 are reporting that the shooting was reported in the 1700 block of South Seminole Drive, and that the driver of the crashed car is a suspect in the shooting incident reported in Chattanooga a short time before the car crash.

Later on Sunday, Scott Benn, the 25-year-old driver of the vehicle, was charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Theft of Property. Chattanooga police believe he is responsible for shooting 56-year-old Dale Edmonds moments before the crash.
