Emilia “Mickye” Genter Passes

Emilia “Mickye” Atkins Genter, 82 of East Ridge passed away on November 19th 2017.

She retired from the United States Postal Service and was a member of the East Ridge Ruritan Club. She was a graduate of Chattanooga City High School. She had no children of her own, but she loved all her nieces and nephews as if they were hers. She enjoyed spending time with family and was a big University of Tennessee fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Joseph Genter, parents, Ralph J. (Flossie) Atkins, Sr., brother, Ralph J. Atkins, Jr., sister, Carolyn Casterline, and a nephew, Gregory Brandt.

 

Left behind to cherish “Mickye’s” memory are her children, Timothy Michael (Jennifer) Brandt, Winder, GA., Mark Kevin (Jeanne) Brandt, and Rajammah Lee Bhandari, both of Chattanooga, grandchildren, Anthony Brandt, and Jeremy Brandt both of Gulfport, MS., Hunter Brandt and Ethan Linehan, both of Chattanooga, sister, Sandra (John) Noll, brother, Thomas D. (Martha) Atkins, both of Chattanooga, and a sister in law, Shirley Atkins, Chantilly, VA., many beloved nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

A Celebration of “Mickye’s” Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Friday November 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Wednesday November 22, 2017 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 South Moore Rd. East Ridge, TN 37412.

Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
